League Wins For Our Two Junior Football Teams;

Both of our Junior Football teams recorded good victories in the City Division Leagues at the Tank Field on Sunday morning, March 4th,2012. 

In the opening game our second string defeated St.Nicks by 3-7 to 0-7. Playing with wind advantage in the opening half,our lads were ahead at the interval by 3-4 to 0-4 with the goals coming from John Noonan,Maurice Carey and Luke O Connell. St.Nicks ,with the elements in their favour in the second half, applied plenty of pressure but, were unable to reduce the defecit ,as our defence were in sparkling form.

At the final whistle our side were leading by 3-7 to 0-7. A most encouraging start to the League for our second string with full points from our two games played. Next outing for our "B" team is on next Sunday morning when we are away to St.Michaels with a 12.15 pm throw-in. Our scorers against St.Nicks were;John Noonan,(1-2},Maurice Carey,(1-0); Luke O Connell,(1-0); Eamonn McCarthy(0-2) Shane Maher,(0-1); Sean O Dwyer (0-1) and James Horgan (0-1).

The second game at the Tank Field, saw our Junior "A" Footballers produce another impressive performance with a 2-15 to 2-5 victory over Bishopstown. Following their creditable share of the points with last years Divisional Champions,St.Finbarrs on last Wednesday night,our lads began Sundays game in determined fashion and, despite playing against a strong breeze,we led by 1-6 to 1-2 at the interval.

Bishopstown rallied in the early stages of the second half and, at one stage they were only three points behind. However, our side dominated the closing stages and emerged comfortable winners in the end. Our scorers were;John Horgan,(0-8);Chris Daly,(1-0);Michael Noonan,(1-0);Cillian Brosnan(0-2);Philip O Brien,(0-2);Tomas Lawrence,(0-1);Dave Cremin,(0-1)and Martin Corbett,(0-1).Our "A" team also travel to face St.Michaels on next Sunday morning with an 11.00am throw-in.
