The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers continued their unbeaten run in the City Division Junior (1) Hurling League with a 3-12 to 0-10 victory over St.Finbarrs ,at Togher on Monday evening,9th July,2012. Brian Dillons have now recorded nine wins from nine games played in this League and are sitting proudly at the top of the League Table. A storming finish by Brian Dillons ,in which they scored 2-6, finally put paid to the stubborn *Barrs challenge but, however, the amount of missed opportunities by the Brian Dillons attacking sextet, through wayward shooting,,up to that stage of the game was most disappointing. The performance of the Brian Dillons defence ,throughout the entire game was, however, most encouraging. The opening half of this game was an evenly contested affair but,the Brian Dillons forward were finding it difficult to score and several chances were wasted by faulty shooting. The "Barrs were ahead,0-5 to 0-2, after 20 minutes of play and then, a pointed "65 by Cillian Brosnan and an opportunist goal by Tomas Lawrence pushed Dillons into the lead after 26 minutes. The "Barrs had the last score of the first half when they had a pointed free ,in the 30th minute to leave the half-time score reading; Brian Dillons,1-3; St,Finbarrs,0-6. In the second -half, Brian Dillons began to dominate the proceedings, with their defence now completely on top,but the forwards were still finding it difficult to score with many chances wasted, once again, through faulty shooting.. The sides were still level,1-6 to 0-9,with ten minutes remaining in the game, and then ,finally the Brian Dillons forwards began to sparkle, A pointed free scored by impressive substitute, Kevin Coughlan,in the 21st minute led to a flurry of impressive scores which yielded a further 2-5 in the remaining minutes with the goals coming from Cillian Brosnan, who had moved into full-forward,and Kevin Coughlan from a free ,which saw Brian Dillons victorious by an eleven point margin.. Next up for Brian Dillons is next Sunday mornings City Division Junior (A) Hurling Championship Quarter -final when Douglas will provide the opposition at Ballinlough with a 11.30 am throw-in.
