Following their exciting win over St. Finbarrs on the previous Tuesday night, the Brian Dillons Junior (B) Footballers produced an even better performance, in Pairc Diolunaigh, on Saturday evening, 12th October,2013, when they scored a splendid, 1-10 to 0-7, victory over St.Nicks in the City Division Junior (2) Football League. Thus, they have jumped to third spot in the League table and are guaranteed of a semi-final spot in the knock-out stage of the competition. Their last ordinary game of the League is scheduled for next Wednesday night when Brian Dillons clash with Whites Cross,in Pairc Diolunaigh, and this game also doubles as the first round of the Seandun Cup. Showing two changes from the win over St.Finbarrs, with Michael Peters and Minor player, Mark Kelly, replacing the unavailable Tom and Barry Triggs, due to their brother, Paul"s wedding, the Brian Dillons side produced a refreshing appetite and verve against St.Nicks. They took the lead , which they never lost, in the fourth minute of the game, when ace marksman, Seanie O"Dwyer popped over a free.. St. Nicks kept in touch in a low scoring first half and at the end of the first quarter, Brian Dillons held an 0-4 to 0-2 lead. With both defences in control, the next ten minutes remained scoreless, and ,then, came the vital score of the game after twenty five minutes. The Brian Dillons corner-forward and captain, Damian Horgan, after a great run , had his goalbound shot deflected out for a 45 metre kick. Michael Colohan opted to take a short pass to wing back Andrew Murphy, from the 45, who,in turn kicked a probing ball into the St.Nicks goalmouth which deceived goal keeper and defenders and ended up in the back of the net for the Brian Dillons goal. Both sides exchanged points in the closing minutes of the first half and , at the interval, Brian Dillons held a 1-5 to 0-3 lead. The second half was an evenly contested affair with both teams scoring some fine points but, Brian Dillons were determined not to lose their advantage on the scoreboard. St. Nicks made strenuous efforts to secure the scores to overtake their opponents but great rearguard defending by John Shek, in goal, James Varian, who was absolutely in brilliant form, Paul Horgan and Andrew Murphy ,ensured that Brian Dillons were not going to relinquish their lead. With Danny Murphy and Mark Kelly winning an amount of midfield possession, Brian Dillons saw the game out with points by Michael Peters,,Michael Colohan, Kevin Allen and the reliable Seanie O"Dwyer to end up winners on a 1-10 to 0-7 scoreline.
