The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Footballers, playing their first game of the 2015 season, were comfortably beaten by Passage in the City Division Junior (1) Football League, at a bog-like Tank Field on Sunday morning, 22nd February, 2015.  The final score was ; Passage, 2-9, Brian Dillons, 0-6.
With new boss, Chris Daly, in charge, it was a disappointing start to the League campaign, but, however, his team were forced to field without several first choice players , who were unavailable due to numerous reasons. Also, as this was the first game of the season for Brian Dillons, their opponents,Passage,   already had three games under their belt ,coming into this match....and it certainly showed ,particularly in the second half.  The opening quarter of the game was evenly contested after Brian Dillons had the opening score...a point from Darren McGrath.  With Passage leading,0-3 to 0-2, after 15 minutes play, they breached the Brian Dillons resolute defence for their first goal and, within a minute, added a further point to put them ahead 1-4 to 0-2.  Brian Dillons fought valiantly to get back into the game, and with three consecutive points, they had reduced the deficit to two points, 1-4 to 0-5 , with ten minutes from the break. Then, came the decisive second Passage goal, five minutes later. It arrived after Brian Dillons had squandered an open goalscoring opportunity, after a great run by the energetic, Philip O"Brien, and ,then, Passage worked the ball upfield which finished in the Brian Dillons net.... 2--4 to 0-5.  This goal seemed to knock the heart out of the Brian Dillons challenge, with Passage adding another point which gave them a 2-5 to 0-5 lead, at the interval.  With the Tank Field sod now like a quagmire , the second half was fought out in treacherous conditions  with only five points scored.   Passage looked the sharper and fitter side in this second half, adding four further points, with Brian Dillons , visibly showing their lack of match practice, only managing to add a solitary point to their half-time score.  The Brian Dillons scorers were; Cillian Brosnan, 0-2 (frees), Darren McGrath, Shane Maher, Philip O"Brien and Thomas McGrath, 0-1 each.  The Brian Dillons team lined out as follows; James Kirby; Kevin O"Sullivan; Edmund Hussey; Eoin Hennessy; Brian Manning; Cillian Brosnan (Capt.); Andrew Murphy; Shane Maher; Darren McGrath; Philip O"Brien; Danny Murphy; Cian McCarthy; Thomas McGrath; James Murphy and Dave Coughlan.  Subs; Darragh Rodgers for Brian Manning (half-time) and Stephen Kearney for Thomas McGrath (50 mins.)  Due to the treacherous underfoot conditions , the second game between Brian Dillons (B) and Nemo Rangers (B),was postponed.
