The Brian Dillons Minor Hurlers qualified for the Rebel Og County Minor Hurling League semi-final , in which they will meet Cobh, when they had a narrow, 2-9 to 2-8, victory over St.Vincents in the Play-off, up in Pairc Uinsinn, on Friday evening, 20th September, 2013. Having beaten St.Vincents, 3-17 to 0-8, in the Championship on a lovely summer evening , back in late July, Brian Dillons were expected to win this League Play-off fairly comfortably but, however, it did not turn out that way.
The opening half of this game had Brian Dillons playing against the fairly strong breeze amidst a continuous drizzle which made if difficult for quality hurling.  However, with points from Eric O"Donoghue (three), Kieran Delaney, Andrew Whyte and Darren McGrath, Brian Dillons had eased into a 0-6 to 0-4 interval lead and looked set to win the game comfortably as, they had wind advantage in the second half.
St.Vincents, however, made a whirlwind start to the second half, scoring 1-1 in the opening four minutes to push them into the lead, 1-5 to 0-6. A terrific goal by Mark Sheedy restored the lead for Brian Dillons  after six minutes of the second half. Eric O"Donoghue  followed with a point ,two minutes later and when Kieran Delaney added his sides second goal, Brian Dillons were leading by 2-7 to 1-5 after fourteen minutes of the second half and looked home and hosed. St.Vincents refused to throw in the towel, like they did in the Championship meeting between the sides, and with three consecutive points, they were back in the game,,2-7 to 1-8, with ten minutes remaining. Eric O"Donoghue pointed to put Brian Dillons three points ahead,2-8 to 1-8, after twenty six minutes, but a goal, two minutes later, brought St.Vincents on level terms. Brian Dillons attacked strongly in the closing two minutes and when the St.Vincents "keeper saved brilliantly from a Kieran Delaney piledriver, he was penalised for lying on the ball as the Brian Dillons forwards came rushing in and from the resultant free, Eric O"Donoghue tapped over the winning score. Scorers for Brian Dillons were; Eric O"Donoghue, 0-6 (0-3 frees); Kieran Delaney, 1-1; Mark Sheedy, 1-0; Andrew Whyte and Darren McGrath, 0-1 each.  Team; Mark Kelly; Brian Burns; Keith McCormick; Michael Feehan; Darren McGrath; John Kenny; Andrew Whyte; Eric O"Donoghue; Brian Manning; Adam Cotter; Mark Sheedy; Kieran Delaney; Subs; Thomas McGrath; Kyle Lynch and Kane O"Brien.
