The Brian Dillons Minor Hurling team  failed in their attempt to reach the Rebel Og County Minor Hurling Championship final, when ,despite battling gamely all through, they were beaten, 2-14 to 0-13, by Tracton in the semi-final, which was played in Passage on Monday evening, 26th August, 2013.  Two goals, one from a penalty and the other from a 21 metre free ,in the opening ten minutes of the second half, tilted the game in Tractons favour, but, full credit to Brian Dillons for making a gallant effort during a tremendously exciting second -half.
Tracton, with way more dangerous forwards, had built up a 0-10 to 0-5 interval lead, although six of their points had come from placed balls. Lack of scoring power was a major problem for Brian Dillons as  Keith McCormick, who had switched from Centre half back to midfield, scored three points, Michael Feehan added a point from right half back while the only forward to score in the opening half was Eric O"Donoghue with a point. The second half began with Brian Dillons getting the first score, a pointed free from Eric O"Donoghue after three minutes play. Then , came the two Tracton goals which left Brian Dillons with a mountain to climb, trailing by 2-10 to 0-6. Still, the next ten minutes saw a tremendous fight-back by Brian Dillons. With their defence in complete control,in which Darren McGrath, at full-back, was absolutely outstanding ,ably assisted with sound performances from Ryan Burns, Michael Feehan, Andrew Whyte and John Kenny, the Brian Dillons side attacked repeatedly and with six points on the trot, shared between the brilliant Keith McCormick and Eric O"Donoghue, they had clawed back the Tracton lead to just four points with ten minutes left for play.....2-10 to 0-12. However, the Tracton forwards clicked into gear in the closing minutes, adding a further four points to which Brian Dillons replied with another point from Eric O"Donoghue. Brian Dillons tried hard to get the goal that they needed in the final minutes of the game but with only Keith McCormick and Eric O"Donoghue looking likely to score, and they had played themselves to a standstill, at this stage, the challenge petered out and Tracton emerged  as 2-14 to 0-13 winners.
The Brian Dillons scorers were; Eric O"Donoghue, 0-6,(0-3 frees); Keith McCormick, 0-6; and Michael Feehan, 0-1; The Brian Dillons team lined out as follows; Mark Kelly; Ryan Burns; Darren McGrath; Michael Feehan; Keith McCormick; John Kenny; Andrew Whyte; Adam Cotter; Brian Manning; Eric O"Donoghue; Kieran Delaney; Eoin Casey; Sub; Thomas McGrath for Eoin Casey (45 mins.).
