A sluggish opening twenty minutes in which they allowed their opponents, Clondrohid, score I-4 and only managed a solitary point themselves, was the main reason why the Brian Dillons Minor Footballers lost the Rebel Og County Minor Football Championship semi-final replay on a 2-8 to 1-7 scoreline, at Coachford on Thursday evening, 5th September, 2013. Brian Dillons finally began to come to grips with the game in the closing ten minutes of the opening half when they chalked up three points in a row, which left them trailing 1-4 to 0-4, at the end of regulation time. However, they were dealt another sucker punch in the second minute of added time when a Clondrohid 45 metre kick finished up in the net to leave the half-time score reading, Clondrohid, 2-4; Brian Dillons, 0-4.; It must be said that the first Clondrohid goal came from the penalty spot after they were awarded a dubious penalty kick by an incompetent refereeing decision.
Clondrohid made the brighter start to the second half with two points in the opening five minutes which pushed them ahead 2-6 to 0-4. A pointed free by Kieran Delaney, for Brian Dillons, left seven points between the teams with fifteen minutes remaining. A brilliant goal from substitute, James Bradfield, for Brian Dillons brought them to within four points from their opponents and the stage was set for an exciting finish to the game. Clondrohid got a bit of breathing space with another pointed free....2-7 to 1-5. Brian Dillons were attacking strongly at this stage of the game in search of a goal but had to be content with a point from Darren McGrath, with four minutes remaining. A minute later Clondrohid restored their five point advantage with time running out for Brian Dillons. Another controversial decision by the referee against Brian Dillons ,when he ignored a blatant foul on one of their forwards which was committed inside the Clondrohid parallelogram and a penalty kick should have been awarded, was to prove costly. Kieran Delaney put over a free, in added tme, to close the scoring which left Brian Dillons trailing by 2-8 to 1-7 at the finish.  Scorers for Brian Dillons were;Kieran Delaney, 0-4 (0-3 frees);James Bradfield, 1-0; Darren McGrath, Eric O"Donoghue and Brian Manning ,0-1 each. The Brian Dillons team lined out as follows; Mark Sheedy; Ryan Burns; Michael Feehan; Keith McCormick; Darren McGrath; Andrew Whyte; Mark Kelly; Adam Cotter; Brian Manning; Eric O"Donoghue; John Kenny; Kieran Delaney; Subs; James Bradfield, Thomas McGrath and Ethan Keane.
