Junior (C) Footballers fail at Final Hurdle.

                       The Brian Dillons third string Junior Footballers failed at the final hurdle when going under to Ballinure"s first choice team in the final of the City Division Junior (C) Football Championship ,which was played in Ballinlough on Saturday evening,15th September,2012.   The final score was, Ballinure,3-8; Brian Dillons (C), 1-8.
                   Brian Dillons started brightly in this game with points from Dave O"Donoghue (free) and Andrew Daly in the opening two minutes. After five minutes play, Ballinure showed their potential with a good goal which pushed them into the lead which they held for the remainder of the game. With their forwards causing all kinds of problems for the Brian Dillons defence, Ballinure got through for their second goal after fifteen minutes and the Brian Dillons side were always chasing the game after this score.   It was 2-5 to 0-6, in Ballinures favour, at the interval.
             Brian Dillons were finding it extremely difficult to penetrate the Ballinure defence in the second-half with their forwards failing to produce the form that demolished Rochestown in the semi-final four days earlier.. The Brian Dillons defence were also in trouble with the ever dangerous Ballinure forwards and when the winners scored their third goal after forty five minutes, the game was as good as over...3=7 to 0-7.
 Brian Dillons did eventually manage to breach the Ballinure rearguard when midfielder, Mark Kelly scored a cracking goal after fifty mjinutes...3-7 to 1-7.  Despite having plenty of possession in the final ten minutes, the Brian Dillons side failed to build on this great goal and with both sides exchanging points,Ballinure held on for a 3-8 to 1-8 victory.
            It was a disappointing finish to the Championship for Brian Dillons and maybe two games within four days did not help. The speed and flair of the previous games was just not there on this occasion with the exception of a few stages of the first-half. Still, it was an achievement to reach the final of this Championship with the clubs third team.
            We congratulate Ballinure on their win and for retaining the title which they also won in 2011.
            Brian Dillons scores were; Dave O"Donoghue,0-4(0-2 frees ); Kevin Allen, 0-3 (0-1 free); Mark Kelly,1-0; and Andrew Daly, 0-1;
           The Brian Dillons team lined out as follows; (1) Paul McCarthy; (2) James Varian; (3) Paul Horgan; (4) Tom Harrington; (5) Dave Whelan; (6) Adam O"Halloran; (7) James O"Shea; (8) Mark Kelly; (9) Dylan O"Donoghue; (10) Dave O"Donoghue; (11) Derek Whelan; (12) Shane Maher; (13) Kevin Allen; (14) Andrew Daly, capt,; (15) Damian Horgan;     Subs; Keith Burns for Adam O"Halloran; Kevin O"Sullivan for Paul Horgan;(both after 23 mins;); Tom Fitzgerald for Andrew Daly,(55 mins.)
