The Brian Dillons Junior (B) Hurlers, who are already through to the knock-out stages of the City Division Junior (2) Hurling League, suffered a surprise one point defeat to Rathpeacon, in the final game of the ordinary rounds, under the lights in Pairc Diolunaigh ,on Thursday evening, 18th September, 2014. The final score was; Brian Dillons (B), 0-14; Rathpeacon, 3-6; Fielding an understrength team, Brian Dillons took the opportunity to give several fringe players the chance to impress and put themselves in the frame for the forthcoming Championship semi-final. However,it was a most disappointing performance and even, at that, the Brian Dillons side ,on duty, could have won, but were caught napping by a late surge from Rathpeacon, who scored 1-5 without reply in the final quarter of the game. The opening half saw Brian Dillons in control, slotting over some wonderful points, but Rathpeacon kept in touch with the help of two goals ,against the run of play. The half-time score saw Brian Dillons ahead by 0-11 to 2-1. The opening quarter of the second half saw Brian Dillons continue to dictate matters but, scoring was not coming as frequently as the first half, and midway through the half they had only three points added to their half-time tally....0-14 to 2-1. Sensing that Brian Dillons were vulnerable, Rathpeacon began to eat into the deficit,scoring three quick points in a two minute spell and only trailed by four points, 0-14 to 2-4, with ten minutes remaining. Five minutes later, only a point seperated the sides when Rathpeacon netted their third goal..... 0-14 to 3-4. The Brian Dillons forwards, despite having plenty of possession,failed to penetrate the Rathpeacon defence in the closing five minutes of the game and, in the final minute ,two quick points gave the spoils to Rathpeacon , by the minumum of margins.
