The Brian Dillons Junior (B) Hurlers, winners of last years City Division Junior (2) Hurling League, continued their unbeaten run in this years competition when they recorded an impressive ,0-15 to 0-5, victory over St.Vincents, on Tuesday evening, 28th May,2013, at Pairc Uinsinn. Although they won fairly comfortable in the end, Brian Dillons had to dig deep at various stages of the game to make sure of victory. Playing with the advantage of a very strong breeze in the opening half, Brian Dillons took a long time to settle down, and with half-time approaching they led 0-7 to 0-3 which was not enough as they had to face the wind and sun in the second half. However, four extra points by Shane Maher, Kevin Varian, Tommy Boland and Edmund Hussey, in the closing three minutes of the first half gave Brian Dillons an eight point cushion ,at the interval The opening stages of the second half saw St. Vincents, now aided by the gale force wind, attack repeatedly but they came up against a teak tough Brian Dillons defence which repulsed, with ease, attack after attack, with the result that they only conceded two points in the entire second half hour. The Brian Dillons forwards managed to add on a further four points during the second half which gave them a comfortable ten point victory at the finish. As already mentioned the entire Brian Dillons defence can take most of the credit for this impressive victory with the half-back line of Darren McGrath, Ken McCarthy and Michael Colohan being particularly outstanding. The mid-field pairing of Edmund Hussey and Shane Maher put in a good shift while the experience of Tommy Boland and James Horgan allied to the youthfullness of Kevin Varian combined to get some splendid points. Next outing for Brian Dillons is on the coming Friday evening, 31st,May, when they are at home, in Pairc Diolunaigh, to Rathpeacon with a 7.30pm throw-in.
