The Brian Dillons Junior (B) Hurling team completed a good week for the club when they recorded a great ,1-16 to 2-10, win over Douglas in the City Division Junior (B) Hurling Championship which was played in Ballinlough on Saturday evening,23rd June,2012. Earlier in the week ,the Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers were successful in their opening Championship game. Great credit is due to the Brian Dillons (B) team on their victory as they had to field without seven of their original team, five were away in Liverpool for the weekend and the other two, Ben Wharton and Martin Corbett, were out injured. Brian Dillons took a long time to settle in this game and they had to play second fiddle for most of the first-half, Douglas were 1-1 to nil ahead after ten minutes before full-forward,Tommy Boland, had Brian Dillons first point in the twelfth minute. Dylan O"Donoghue added another Dillons point from a long range free and then, Brian Dillons went ahead for the first time in the twentieth minute when lively wing forward, Shane Maher went on a great solo run before hand passing the ball to Tommy Boland who duly rattled the net for a great goal.However, Douglas regained the iniatitive with a further 1-3 before James Horgan stroked over two pointed frees to leave the half time score reading, Douglss,2-4Brian Dillons , 1-4. With the advantage of a swirling wind in their favour,in the second half, Brian Dillons controlled matters with James Horgan ,unerring from placed balls ,stroking over eight points ( two from play) and defenders , James Murphy, Dylan O"Donoghue James Varian and Dave Cremin excelling. Leading by the minimum of margins with time running out, Brian Dillons sealed victory with two magnificent points from Tommy Boland, who had moved out to the left half forward position, The Brian Dillons scorers were;James Horgan,0-10 (0-8 frees); Tommy Boland,1-4;Dylan O"Donoghue ,0-1 (free) and James Murphy,0-1 (a magnificent strike).
