              The Brian Dillons and St.Finbarrs Junior (B) Football teams finished level after an entertaining game, in the City Division Junior (2) Football League, which was played in the Tank Field ,on Sunday morning, 16th March, 2014. The final score was, Brian Dillons (B),1-9; St.Finbarrs (B),1-9;
             A draw seemed to be a fitting result as both sides had their period of ascendancy and the game produced several twists and turns. Brian Dillons were playing against the brisk breeze in the opening half but, nevertheless, opened in style with points from Danny Murphy and Tommy Boland plus a great Darren McGrath goal,pushed them 1-2 to 0-1, ahead after five minutes of play. Two minutes later, Seanie O"Dwyer slotted over a free, which left Dillons leading by 1-3 to 0-1, and playing confidently. The Barrs soon settled and three consecutive points left them trailing by just two points, with fifteen minutes remaining in the first half. Another Brian Dillons point from the impressive, Brian Manning, left his team leading, 1-4 to 0-4, after twenty minutes play., St.Finbarrs, with wind advantage, attacked strongly in the closing five minutes of the opening half and were rewarded with a goal and a point which gave them a slender, 1-5 to 1-4, interval lead.
            Brian Dillons had the advantage of the breeze in the second half but, it was the "Barrs who opened promisingly with two points in the opening two minutes.... 1-7 to 1-4. Barry Triggs slotted over a point from a "45, after five minutes for Brian Dillons,.. 1-7 to 1-5. However, it was the "Barrs that were playing the best football in the opening quarter of the second half and two further points pushed them 1-9 to 1-5 ahead. They would have been further ahead but, for a splendid save by the Brian Dillons "keeper, John Shek. However ,the closing ten minutes of the game belonged to Brian Dillons. Another fine point ,from play, by Barry Triggs, reduced the deficit to three points , which was followed by a pointed free from Danny Murphy.. 1-9 to 1-7, with five minutes remaining.. Then, outstanding wing back, James Varian, raced up field to kick two splendid points to level the scores and was most unlucky to see a third effort sail narrowly wide. Still, a draw was a fair result and both teams can feel satisfied with a share of the spoils.
