Just two nights after they had scored an exciting win over Ballyphehane, the Brian Dillons Junior (B) Football team went under to an impressive Rathpeacon side, in the City Division Junior (2) Football League, which was played in Pairc Diolunaigh,on Friday evening, 2nd May, 2014. The final score was; Brian Dillons (B),1-5; Rathpeacon, 1-12; Playing a brand of football which had Brian Dillons on the backfoot, throughout the opening half, Rathpeacon had built up an interval lead of 1-8 to 0-1 , with the Brian Dillons sole point coming from Seanie O"Dwyer"s penalty kick, which was pushed over by the Rathpeacon "keeper.. Brian Dillons did much better in the second half with substitutes, Kevin Varian, Brian Manning and Kevin Coughlan making a huge difference to the team. A goal from Kevin Varian, in the seventh minute of the second half, had reduced the arrears to six points, 1-9 to 1-3, and Brian Dillons looked to be back in the game. However, the ability that Rathpeacon had of gaining possession from kickouts, prevented the Brian Dillons side from getting any closer. Still, the efforts of the Brian Dillons players, for not collapsing completely in the second half ,when they actually outscored their opponents by 1-4 to 0-4, are to be applauded.
