Junior (A) Hurlers Have Comfortable League Win over St. Vincents.

The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers made it four wins from four games played in this years City Division Junior (1) Hurling League when they recorded a comfortable,2-20 to 1-10 victory over St.Vincents ,at Pairc Diolunaigh on Thursday evening, 16th May,2013.
Although they were missing a few regulars, Brian Dillons were always in control of this game and, except for the opening five minutes when St. Vincents twice led by a point, they were never in any sort of trouble.  St. Vincents opened the scoring with a point in less than a minute but, midfielder, Tomas Lawrence levelled matters for Brian Dillons when he pointed  in the third minute.  A point ,one minute later, pushed St. Vincents ahead for the second and last time in the game. For the remainder of the first half Brian Dillons played some very attractive hurling and with some splendid points they had scorched into a 0-11 to 0-3 lead after twenty -five minutes. The Brian Dillons defence, with Darragh Brosnan, in at full-back for the injured Danny Murphy, performing brilliantly and the entire half back trio of Danny McCormick, Mark White and Cillian Brosnan ,almost impregnable, they limited the St.Vincents forwards to just one single point, from a free for the last 27 minutes of the first half.  The game was more or less done and dusted in the 28th minute when John Horgan, after receiving an intelligent pass from Mark Buckley, billowed the back of the net to put Brian Dillons ahead, 1-11 to 0-3.  A further point by John Horgan, a minute later , had Dillons leading, 1-12 to 0-3, at the interval.
The second half began with Brian Dillons still in scoring form and with points by Keith McCormick (two) and Mark Buckley, both of whom had excellent games, they were ahead,1-15 to 0-4 after seven minutes. Kieran O"Mahony began to introduce some of the subs, into the proceedings, at this stage and understandably, the scoring rate began to drop. A second goal  by John Horgan, this time he blasted a 21 metre free to the back of the net, had Brian Dillons ahead , 2-17 to 0-7, with nine minutes remaining in the game. St. Vincents got through for their goal , in the 25th minute of the second half, after Andrew Murphy, in the Dillons goal, saved well  only to see the rebound finished to the net.. Points were exchanged in the closing few minutes to leave Brian Dillons winners by a thirteen point margin.
Brian Dillons are in action, again, on next Sunday morning when they, welcome Cloughduv to Pairc Diolunaigh for a challenge game, which has an 11.30am start, while on next Wednesday evening they have another League game, when Na Piarsaigh provide the opposition at Pairc Diolunaigh (7.15pm.)      Scorers for Brian Dillons against St.Vincents were; John Horgan,2-5 (1-4 frees); Tomas Lawrence, 0-4; Keith McCormick,0-4; Mark Buckley, 0-3; John Noonan, 0-2; Niall O"Sullivan and Dave Coughlan,0-1 each.
