The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers are through to the quarter-final of the City Division Junior (A) Hurling Championship as a result of their, 2-16 to 0-6, demolition of Delanys, on Saturday evening, 6th July,2013, at the splendidly manicured Na Piarsaigh Ground..In the quarter-final they will meet the winners of the St.Vincents and Passage clash on a date yet to be confirmed. The game against Delanys was a mismatch from the beginning with Brian Dillons always in control although stylish hurling was difficult due to the physicality of the Dublin Hill side.. The game started tentatively with both sides exchanging points in the opening five minutes. One minute later, the Brian Dillons midfielder, Tomas Lawrence, soloed through the Delanys defence and planted the ball in the back of the net for a great goal.. Brian Dillons were now firing on all cylinders and two minutes later they almost scored a second goal when Cillian Brosnan was through one and one with the Delanys goalkeeper, who made a magnificent save..The remainder of the first half saw Brian Dillons in total control and, with the discipline of Delanys deteriorating and punished by the accurate free taking of John Horgan, they had built up a lead of 1-8 to 0-2 after twenty two minutes. Delanys were further punished for their indiscipline ,two minutes later, when one of their corner forwards was redcarded by the Referee, Kevin Murphy. The last five minutes of the opening half saw Brian Dillons go further ahead with a point, from play, by John Horgan and another great goal by Niall O"Sullivan, after been put through by Cillian Brosnan, to leave them leading at the interval by 2-9 to 0-2. Credit must be given to the Brian Dillons defence, in this opening half, for keeping the Delanys total scoring to a miserable two points..All six defenders were outstanding with the result that Andrew Murphy, in goal,,did not have a single shot to save. Three further points by John Horgan (two) and Cillian Brosnan stretched Brian Dillons lead to 2-12 to 0-2 ,after seven minutes of the second half and the game was as good as over at that stage. Understandably, the determination in the play of the Brian Dillons players relaxed for the remainder of the game as the contest petered out to it"s obvious conclusion. Unfortunately, Brian Dillons lost the services of the lionhearted Daniel McCormick, who was redcarded with five minutes remaining, for reacting to a foul on Tomas Lawrence. Injuries to Niall O"Sulliuvan (hand), Danny Murphy (leg) and Tomas Lawrence (ankle) also forced them off the field during the closing quarter of the game. A job well done in a professional manner and now Brian Dillons can look forward to a quarter-final clash with the wiinners of the St. Vincents and Passage fourth round tie.
