Reigning County and City Junior (A) Hurling League champions, Brian Dillons, maintained their unbeaten run in this years City Division Junior (1) Hurling League when they recorded their eight straight win in the competition with a relatively easy, 2-18 to 1-6, victory over St.Vincents, up in Pairc Uinsinn on Saturday evening, 12th July, 2014. Fielding without seven members of their Championship win over St.Finbarrs, Dave Cremin, Danny Murphy, Michael Noonan, Darragh Brosnan,Cian McCarthy, Philip O"Brien and Shane Maher, the Brian Dillons team on duty, nevertheless, produced an impressive performance in overcoming the Vincents challenge.. After a shaky start with the typical spirited play of St.Vincents causing problems , Brian Dillons eventually, settled down and went on to play some delightful hurling, particularly in the second half. St. Vincents, despite playing against a stiff breeze, went into a two point lead after three minutes play before Brian Dillons opened their account,with a John Horgan point, in the fifth minute. Four minutes later, the same player careered through the Vincents defence to finish to the net for a fine goal ,which really settled Brian Dillons. Leading by 1-4 to 0-3, Brian Dillons were rocked, after 20 minutes play, when St. Vincents goaled ,to leave them trailing by just a point and having wind advantage in the second half. However, Brian Dillons finished the first half in style with a string of impressive points and their defence , with Darragh Rodgers and Daniel McCormick in great form, held the Vincents forwards scoreless for the closing ten minutes of the half which left the interval score reading, Brian Dillons, 1-10; St.Vincents, 1-3. Still, turning around to play against a strong breeze in the second half, Brian Dillons had a lot to do if they were to be winners. Brian Dillons really turned on the style, in the second half and when Cillian Brosnan secured their second goal, after ten minutes, they were well on their way to victory. The Brian Dillons defence were completely on top , in this half, only allowing St.Vincents score three points, even though they were playing with wind advantage. With Keith McCormick and Tomas Lawrence excelling, at midfield, the Brian Dillons forwards were provided with a plentiful supply of the ball and they notched some splendid scores to run out comfortable winners on a 2-18 to 1-6 scoreline.
