Junior (A) Hurlers Advance in Championship with Big Win over Whites Cross

         The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers advanced in the 2012 City Division Championship with a comfortable, 2-17 to 1-5, victory over Whites Cross in a first round game which was played in Ballinlough on Tuesday evening, 19th June,2012.
         This game was played in ideal weather conditions but, the opening 15 minutes was contested in a subdued fashion with Brian Dillons ahead by 0-3 to 0-1 at the end of this period.In fact, it was Whites Cross who opened the scoring with a pointed free after 5 minutes. John Horgan levelled matters in the 7th minute with a similar score and the same player with two more points,one from a free,had Brian Dillons ahead ,0-3 to 0-1,at the end of the first quarter. The game turned decisively in Brian Dillons favour in the 18th minute when a long range free from excellent centre -half-back,Mark White landed in the Whites Cross parellogram and was slammed to the net by John Horgan for the opening goal of the game. A second Brian Dillons goal ,scored by corner-forward,John Noonan, arrived shortly after and further points by Cian McCarthty(2),Philip O"Brien,Darragh Brosnan (a superb score),and John Horgan ,in response to 3 points(2 frees} from Whites Cross saw the half -time score read; Brian Dillons, 2-8; Whites Cross,0-4.
            Brian Dillons continued to dominate proceedings in the early period of the second half with their defence ,superbly marshalled by the superb Darragh Rodgers,completely on top   and a further 6 unanswered  points from Tomas Lawrence (2) John Horgan (2 frees) Keith McCormick and Cian McCarthy pushed them into a 2-14 to 0-4 lead at the end of the third quarter. Brian Dillons seemed to take the foot off the pedal which allowed the resilent Whites Cross to add a further goal and a point in the final quarter . However, Brian Dillons responded with a further 3 points from Keith McCormick, substitute Dave Coughlan and another John Horgan free to run out comfortable winners and go into the hat for the 3rd and 4th round draw.
