The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Footballers ,after their defeat to Delanys in midweek, returned to winning ways when they proved way too strong for newly promoted Whitechurch, out in cold and blustery Whitechurch on Sunday morning, 7th April,2013 ,in the City Division Junior (1) Football League. The final score was; Brian Dillons, 2-15; Whitechurch, 0-4. The conditions proved extremely difficult for the players in this game with a cold, gale force wind blowing throughout, which made it most unpleasant for the teams and supporters alike. Brian Dillons had the advantage of the breeze, in the opening half and they raced into a 0-7 to nil lead ,at the end of the first quarter. Accuracy was proving difficult ,due to the blustery breeze, and Brian Dillons could only add a further three points in the second quarter while their wides tally reached a total of eight. At the interval, Brian Dillons were leading by 0-10 to nil. Whatever hopes Whitechurch, now playing with the wind , had of winning were well and truly put to bed after 10 minutes of the second half. With the score reading,0-12 to 0-3, Brian Dillons had their first goal when Cillian Brosnan drilled the ball to the corner of the net, from the penalty spot, after the same player had been hauled down in the parallelogram. Whitechurch could only add one solitary point for the remainder of the game ,while Brian Dillons, with Niall Fahy, Chris Daly, Darren McGrath, Cian McCarthy and Cillian Brosnan excelling, got through for a further 1-3 with the goal expertly finished by Cillian Brosnan.
