The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Footballers dropped their first brace of points in this years City Division Junior (1) Football League when they went under to Delanys, 1-9 to 2-9, on Wednesday evening, 3rd April, 2013, at Delanys Ground ,in Kilbarry,
While never displaying the form they showed in their previous outing against St.Vincents, the Brian Dillons side were in this game
with a right good chance of success until they conceded a penalty , which was goaled, with just five minutes left . However, the lack of scoring power must be a source of grave concern to the Brian Dillons mentors as only two of the starting forwards contributed to the 1-9 total. Corner forward, John Horgan scored all nine points, four from placed balls, and centre half forward,Cillian Brosnan, fisted the goal ,after being moved into the full- forward position.
Delanys got off to a good start with two points in the opening five minutes and when they got their first goal in the 13th minute of the first half, it looked like they would run out easy winners   However, Brian Dillons, with Tomas Lawrence excelling at midfield, began to eat into the Delanys lead and when Cillian Brosnan fisted to the net , after receiving an excellent ball from John Horgan, with just two minutes left in the first half, only a point seperated the teams.  Both teams exchanged points before the break and at the interval Delanys held a slender lead of
1-5 to 1-4.
Delanys  began the second half as they did in  the first half , when they put over three points,in the opening five minutes to restore their four point advantage, before John Horgan opened the Brian Dillons account ,with a point , after 13 minutes. The same player added another point, three minutes later, to leave two points between the teams..  Delanys increased their lead to three points witth a point in the 20th minute but it was back to two when John Horgan pointed a free for Brian Dillons, three minutes later. The game was decided in the 25th minute of the second half when Delanys goaled from the penalty spot which gave them a four point lead once again. John Horgan closed the scoring with another pointed free ,in the final minute of the game to leave the final score reading, Delanys,2-9; Brian Dillons,1-9.
Scorers for Brian Dillons were; John Horgan, 0-9, (0-4 frees); and Cillian Brosnan,1-0;. ,
