The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Footballers, who were most unlucky not to win last Saturdays City Division Junior (A) Football Championship First round game ,with Whites Cross, collapsed completely in the replay, which was played in Ballinlough on Friday evening, 8th May, 2015. The final score was, Whites Cross, 3-9; Brian Dillons, 2-3. This game was decided in the opening half when Whites Cross, playing with the advantage of the strong breeze, had Brian Dillons on the defensive for most of the half hour, and with a most economical attacking performance, raced into a 2-5 to nil lead after 20 minutes. Worse was to follow for Brian Dillons, when one of their best players, Tomas Lawrence, was blackcarded, after he mouthed off to the referee for not awarding him a free after he had came in for some rough treatment from the Whites Cross defenders. The sending off of Tomas was a cruel blow to Brian Dillons chances of staging a second half comeback, similar to the previous week"s drawn encounter. At half-time, Whites Cross led by 10 points, 2-5 to 0-1, after Darren McGrath had scored the solitary Brian Dillons point, after 25 minutes. Whatever hopes Brian Dillons had of reeling in Whites Cross, were well and truly dashed, in the early minutes of the second half, when half -back, Andrew Murphy, was rather harshly sent off for a second yellow card offence and from that moment on, Brian Dillons were in disarray, with their players continuously frustrated by some strange decisions by the referee. Cillian Brosnan, when moved into the full-forward line,in the second half, battled on bravely and, even though being shadowed by two defenders, he ended up by scoring 2-2. Brian Dillons also missed the unavailable, Darragh Rodgers, who was so influential, at centre forward , in the previous weeks drawn encounter. Congratulations to Whites Cross ,on their victory. They were, by far, the better side, on this occasion. For Brian Dillons , it"s a second round game with St.Vincents ,to look forward to ,next month. Scorers for Brian Dillons were; Cillian Brosnan, 2-2 (1-0 penalty, 0-1 free ) and Darren McGrath, 0-1. The Brian Dillons team lined out as followa; James Kirby; Edmund Hussey; Chris Daly; Michael Noonan; Andrew Murphy; Cillian Brosnan; Cian McCarthy; Tomas Lawrence; Darragh Brosnan; Philip O"Brien; Darren McGrath; Barry Triggs; Dave Cremin; John Horgan and Mark Buckley; Subs; Dave O"Leary for Tomas Lawrence ( Black Card, 23 mins.); Kevin Coughlan for Philip O"Brien (Half time);; Dave Coughlan for Dave Cremin (45 mins.); Philip O"Brien for Barry Triggs (48 mins.); Dave Cremin for Darragh Brosnan ( 54 mins.). |
