A goal, scored in the 32nd minute of the second-half, gave Whites Cross a 1-9 0-9 victory over Brian Dillons in the City Division 2012 Junior Football League (1) semi-final, which was played at a bitterly cold Tank Field on Sunday morning, 20th January,2013. Once again, the Brian Dillons Footballers flattered to deceive. Following a similar pattern to last weeks frustrating one point loss to Delanys in the 2012 McSwiney Cup semi -final, the Brian Dillons side opened impressively and had opened up an 0-4 to nil lead after 12 minutes play. Three quick points brought Whites Cross right back in the game and they were only behind by a point, 0-4 to 0-3, after 16 minutes play. Exchanges were extremely keen at this stage of the game and at half-time, Brian Dillons were still holding a one point lead,0-6 to 0-5. The second half proceedings saw Brian Dillons finding scoring extremely difficult as they did the previous week against Delanys. Whites Cross were playing much better in this half and had surged into an 0-9 to 0-7 lead with just 8 minutes of normal time remaining. Brian Dillons battled back to score two fine points which had the sides level, 0-9 each, with 29 minutes of the second half gone. The game seemed destined to end level and force extra time to be played, at this stage. However. there was just another twist in the tale, when in the 2nd minute of the three minutes injury time, a short Brian Dillons kick out saw Whites Cross gain possession,as a result of an unkind bounce of the ball, and the Whites Cross attacker finished to the net for the only goal of the game. Brian Dillons attacked strongly in the final minute but all to no avail and at the final whistle ,Whites Cross were through to the 2012 League final, in which they play Douglas, on a 1-9 to 0-9 scoreline. For the Brian Dillons side its back to the drawing board as they prepare for the 2013 campaign, and hopefully end the nine year famine for a Junior (A) Football trophy.
