The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers surrendered their McCurtain Cup title when they went under to St.Vincents, 1-14 to 1-7, up in Pairc Uinsinn on Sunday morning, 20th October,2013. Fielding a most understrength side, missing seven from their Championship semi-final game with Nemo, back in August, Brian Dillons were always struggling in this game, with the home side adapting much better to the heavy underfoot conditions and grassy pitch which prevailed in Pairc Uinsinn.. Forced to line out without Michael Noonan, John Horgan Niall O"Sullivan, Daniel McCormick, Cian McCarthy, Cillian Brosnan and Brian Barrett, the Brian Dillons management were put to the pin of their collar to field a team on a dreadful morning of heavy showers, one of which lasted for the entire first half. With regular free takers, John Horgan and Cillian Brosnan, both unavailable, several scoreable frees were wasted and ,in general the performance of the Brian Dillons forwards was most disappointing, to say the least.. St.Vincents, with the help of a soft first minute goal, were leading at the interval by 1-8 to 1-4, with the Brian Dillons goal coming from the stick of Danny Murphy, who had been switched from his usual full-back berth to full forward, midway through the first half. There was no improvement in the Brian Dillons attacking performance during in the second half, in which they only managed to score a paltry three points, all from frees, and many more opportunities were wasted due to faulty shooting, especially from placed balls. St.Vincents , availing of most of their opportunities, added a further six points to their half -time tally , to finish seven points ahead, 1-14 to 1-7, at the finish. The Brian Dillons scorers were; Danny Murphy, 1-2 (0-2 frees); Kevin Coughlan, 0-4 (0-3 frees); and Dave Coughlan,0-1; + |
