The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers got their 2013 campaign off to a successfull start when they recorded a comfortable, 1-14 to 0-08, victory over Delanys in the opening round of the City Division Junior (1) Hurling League on Sunday morning, 10th March 2013, at a bitterly cold Pairc Diolunaigh. Conditions were far from ideal ,at Pairc Diolunaigh, for this game with a strong bitterly cold wind and a continuous downpour making it extremely difficult for the players. Brian Dillons had the advantage of the strong breeze in the opening half and ,although the conditions made it almost impossible to register a high score, they still managed plenty of impressive points to give them an 0-10 to 0-3 interval lead. A brilliant early second-half goal, scored by outstanding midfielder, Tomas Lawrence, put Brian Dillons further ahead and left Delanys with a mountain to climb. Playing with the advantage of the breeze in the second-half, the Delanys forwards saw plenty of the ball but found the Brian Dillons defence in defiant mood and could only manage to score 5 points throughout the 30 minutes. At the other end ,Brian Dillons continued to pick off the odd point and their superiority was never threatened. The Brian Dillons scorers were; Cillian Brosnan, 0-7 (0-6 frees ); Tomas Lawrence, 1-2; Niall O"Sullivan, 0-3; Kevin Coughlan and Keith McCormick, 0-1 each. |
