The Brian Dillons Junior (B) Hurlers are the City Division Junior Hurling League (2) Champions for 2012. On Monday evening, 26th November, 2012, they had a resounding, 5-17 to 0-8, victory over Lough Rovers in the final, which was played ,under the lights, out in Pairc an Locha in the Carrigrohane Road. Continuing their recent good form in which they had comfortable victories over Mayfield and Whitechurch, the Brian Dillons side gave an absolutely powerful performance in this convincing win over Lough Rovers. Firing on all cylinders from the throw-in, they raced into a 2-4 to nil lead after twelve minutes with team captain, James Horgan, helping himself to 2-3. Brian Dillons continued their dominance throughout the remainder of the first half with their forwards adding another eight points and their outstanding defenders holding the Lough forwards scoreless. At half-time, Brian Dillons led by 2-12 to nil. Playing with the advantage of a stiff breeze in the second-half, the Lough improved and added some splendid points but, there was never any danger to Brian Dillons as they continued to play some delightful hurling as well as adding a further 3-5 to their half-time tally. Such was their dominance that it was possible for team manager, Anthony O"Sullivan, to empty his bench , introducing five subs, during the second-half. This was a magnificent triumph for the Brian Dillons second string which included an excellent balance of promising young Minor players and vastly experienced former Junior (A) players. Goalkeeper , John O"Herlihy was as dependable as ever, recording his third clean sheet in a row. Minor player, Stephen Kearney, was outstanding in the right full back position, with veterans Derek McDonnell and Keith Burns, displaying all their experience, also in the full-back line. The half-back line of James Murphy, Minor player, Darren McGrath, and Cian Crowley were absolutely outstanding throughout the game. Another Minor, James O"Shea, and another youngster, Shane Maher, ran themselves to a standstill , when controlling matters at midfield while James Horgan, Kevin Varian and Mark Buckley were in great scoring form ,in the forwards with Dave Whelan, Tommy Boland and Stuart Crichton also ,making huge contributions to this victory. Congratulations to all concerned and especially to Manager, Anthony O"Sullivan and selectors, Michael Barry and Willie Murphy.
