Our U-21 hurlers were unlucky on Sunday last in Ballinlough as they lost out to a very good Blackrock side after extra-time. The sides had gone in level at half time 0-05 to 1-02, after Dillions had picked off some impressive points through Cillian Brosnan, Cian McCarthy, Tomas Lawrence and Kevin Coughlan. However as with Blackrock this half saw one too many wides from both side. In what turned out to be a tense second half were Blackrock looked like they would push on after a good start, up popped Shane Maher for Dillons only goal of the game after a great passing move. This put Dillons two points to the good and they took hold of the game from here entering the last few seconds a point to the good they conceded a free inside Blackrocks half in front of their dugout, and to most peoples surprise up stepped there goal keeper to send it over the bar and tie the game. With the start of extra time Blackrock raced into a three point lead which proved to be the winning of the game. Dillons came back with a few scores but couldn't find that extra push or the goal to win it for them. Ultimately the wides tally and the accuracy of Blackrocks free takers from the dead ball proved decisive and it finished Brian Dillons 1-13; Blackrock 1-15 in what was a great game of hurling played in a sporting manner.
