The Brian Dillons Junior (B) Hurlers contest the semi-final of the City Division Junior (B) Hurling Championship on Sunday morning next, 28th September, 2014, when they meet Mayfield ,in Ballinlough with a 12.15pm throw-in. This game is a repeat of last years semi-final when Mayfield emerged narrow winners on a 0-16 to 1-11 scoreline. In the current season the performances of the Brian Dillons team have been quite encouraging, with two big wins in the Championship and finishing in second spot in the Junior (2) Hurling League and qualifying for the semi-final of the competition. In the opening round of the Championship, which was played way back on the 29th June, Brian Dillons had a facile, 5-23 to 0-6, victory over St.Vincents. Over two months later , on 4th September, the second round of the Championship saw Brian Dillons put in a storming performance when toppling Na Piarsaigh on a 2-15 to 1-8 scoreline. However, since that win, Brian Dillons have lost four of their most prominent players. Sterling defender, James Varian, who produced a Man of the Match performance against Na Piarsaigh, has sadly emigrated to Canada for two years and in the recent Junior (A) Hurling Championship, Niall Fahy started against Nemo Rangers while two other members of the (B) team, Mark Buckley and Kevin Varian were used as substitutes ,late in the same game. The loss of those four players will make it extremely difficult to succeed on Sunday, but, however, under the management of Tommy Boland, Ger Allen and Maurice Browne, this team has portrayed tremendous loyalty and spirit , this season, and can be depended on to put up a battling performance against Mayfield. |
