Junior (A) Footballers Meet Whites Cross in Championship Quarter-final.

posted 14 Aug 2014, 12:27 by Willie Horgan
With the Brian Dillons Junior (A) Hurlers already in the semi-final of the City Division Junior (A) Hurling Championship, it is the turn of the Clubs Junior (A) Footballers to try and reach the penultimate stage of the Junior (A) Football Championship, when they face Whites Cross,in the quarter-final, on Friday next, 15th August, 2014, out in Ballinlough with a 7.15pm throw-in. This game is a repeat of last years semi-final game in which Brian Dillons emerged victorious on a 1-12 to 1-7 scoreline. Subsequently, the teams met each other on two further occasions ,later on in 2013 with victory going to Brian Dillons in the Junior (1) Football League semi-final (1-7 to 1-6) and the McSwiney Cup final (1-6 to 0-4). In this years League meeting between the teams, Brian Dillons ,again , were winners on a 0-8 to 0-5 scoreline. Team Manager, Alan Whelan, will be hoping that his charges can, once again, deliver the goods on Friday evening, but, he has to be concerned about the lack of Football activity by his team. Brian Dillons have not played a Football game since their previous Championship outing, when they recorded a 1-14 to 1-8 victory over St.Michaels, away back on 14th June. Since then, the Club has been involved in the Hurling Championship and League campaigns, at both (A) and (B) grade levels, with, only, the last week or so devoted to preparation for Fridays Football quarter-final tie. Hopefully, the players can reproduce the form they produced in their opening Championship wins over St.Nicks and St.Michaels respectively ,and, if they do, they have a decent chance of qualifying for the semi-final of the Championship for the third consecutive year.       The Clubs second and third teams are, also, in Football Championshiip action in the next few days with the Brian Dillons (B) team facing St.Vincents (B) in the City Division Junior (B) Football Championship, at Ballinlough, on Tuesday evening next, 19th August, 2014 ,with throw-in at 7.00pm while, on the following evening, Wednesday,20th August,2014 the Brian Dillons (C) team meet Redmonds, in the City Division Junior (C) Football Championship, also in Ballinlough (Throw-in 7.00pm.)
