The Brian Dillons Junior (A) Footballers are in Championship action on this coming Saturday evening, 11th May,2013, when they face up to St.Michaels in a first round tie ,at Ballinlough, with a 7.00pm throw-in. Brian Dillons last won the City Division Junior (A) Football Championship in 1998 and since then ,they have showed signs of bridging that gap but have flattered to deceive on so many occasions. Last season, they were well beaten in the semi-final by St. Finbarrs, after they had to play the entire second half with fourteen players, after having a man sent off shortily before half -time, at which stage they were well in the game. In 2011, they, again, reached the semi-final stage, only to lose to Douglas by four points. Saturdays opponents, St.Michaels, will provide a tough obstacle and Brian Dillons will have to be at their best if they hope to advance to the third round and to avoid going through the dreaded Losers second round tie. So far, this seasons League campaign has gone reasonably well wjth victories over St. Vincents, Whitechurch, Na Piarsaig and Bishopstown and losing one game to Delanys. Fielding this year without Brian Barrett, Tom Triggs and Stephen Crowley, some of the younger players on the panel will be given their chance to impress on the big stage ,on Saturday evening. |
