Congratulations are extended to Brian Dillons clubman, John Horgan, who has won the North City and District award for September, 2012 ,for his performance in the City Division Junior (A) Hurling Championship final, in which Brian Dillons beat Mayfield, in Ballinlough, on Sunday, 9th September. He will be presented with the award at a function to be held in the Ambassador Hotel on Wednesday, 19th September, 2012.
John began playing hurling, at the age of eight, in the Brian Dillons Street Leagues. He won several trophies at under-14 and under-16 level with the club and was picked on the Cork under-14 and under-15 teams. He won a City Minor Football Championship medal with Brian Dillons in 2000.
He played Colleges hurling with Farrenferris with whom he won Dean Ryan and Dr.O"Callaghan Cup medals and, though he missed out at Minor and under-21 level with Cork, John  made his Munster Championship debut , against Clare, at Thurles with the Cork Intermediate hurlers in 2007.
John Horgan"s prodigious scoring rate with Brian Dillons was a key factor in the club"s successes at under-age and adult level where he established  himself as an outstanding player and captain.  In 2006 he inspired the club to the City Division Hurling Championship title, scoring 0-11 in the 1-13 to 0-11 victory over Mayfield, in the final , while his total scores in Championship and League games, that year, amounted to a staggering 7 goals and 143 points.
John has represented Brian Dillons on the Seandun team in the County Senior Hurling Championship for many years and one of his best scoring feats ,in this competition was the 2-8 he scored against Avondhu in 2007.
Of all his high scoring performances, perhaps John Horgans most remarkable was his 18 point contribution to Brian Dillons League final victory over the "Barrs in 2010.   Brian Dillons won that particular game by 1-23 to 0-12 and, appropriately, John captained the side that completed the three in a row League titles.
So far this year, he has chalked up a total of 4-73 from nine games played ,while his 0-8 haul in the recent City Division Championship final was instrumental in Brian Dillons, 1-14 to 1-10, victory over Mayfield.
