Our U18 team had a tremendous win over Millford/Ballyhea in the Q.F of the the championship on November 6 at Mallow. Played under lights and on a heavy pitch, Dillons were well motivated for this from the start. Having been beaten by the same opposition in the league in October and conceeding 5-5 to them, we were determined to reverse that result. The game was fiercely competitive and the first score did not come until the 15th minute which was a point to Millford. They scored a second point before Caoimhe Rodgers scored a goal from a 35 yard free to put us up by a point. Shauna Cronin was simply outstanding around the middle of the field. Lauren Barry then scored a brilliant point from play before Caoimhe scored another point. At H.T we were 1-2 to 0-3 up. In the second half our defence was rock solid. Emma Sharpe at centre back was dominant and Alison Smith cleaned up any loose ball. Millford scored two more points to draw the game at this stage. Ruth Brosnan recieved a nasty hand injury but as a true captain she played on to great effect. Caoimhe put over two points from frees to put us two points up. Millford piled on the pressure in the last few minutes but we fought for everything. You could see we wanted it more. Niamh Cotter at corner back was superb and when called on Shauna Walsh in goal made a number of crucial saves. The final score was 1-4 to 0-5. To reduce Millford to five points and none from play was probably our best performance of the season. St. Finbarrs await in the semis which is being held next Sunday November 10. Venue to be decided. |
