Our U18 team have reached the Championship Final following a magnificant semi final victory over St Finbarrs. The match was played in Whitechurch on November 10 in appalling weather conditions. Similar to the Milford / Ballyhea Quarter Final earlier this week, Dillons had a lot to prove. The Barrs gave us a hammering in the League Final in September and we were determined to show them what we are made of. The Barrs went two points up early on the game before Caoimhe Rogers put our first point on the board. Caoimhe scored a fabolous goal soon after to put us ahead. The Barrs responded with three points to make the H.T score 0-5 to 1-1 in favour of the Barrs. Eventhough we were a point down you could feel our confindence growing. The Barrs scored the first point of the second half which proved to be their last score of the match. From here on in we were dominant in all areas of the field, every single player for Dillons were on their game. We hunted in packs, fought for every ball and our work rate was phenominal. Kayleigh Looby scored a goal followed by a point by Caoimhe. Then within a five minute spell we scored two more goals from Shauna Croinn and Caoimhe. There was only one team in it at this stage, the Barrs had no answer to us.The final whistle went and Dillons were jubilent. The FT score was 4-3 to 0-6. Every player played their part including Jessica Agbaloga who came on as a sub and caused panic in the Barrs defence. This was a magnificnat team performance. However one player stood out, Alison Smith at wing back. What a performance from her. Every time she gained possession she drove forward with great effect. Blackrock await in the Final which is scheduled for next Sunday - November 17th. |
