Brian Dillons are U16 League Champions are a thrilling win over Millstreet in the final held at Castle Road earlier today. After last week's defeat in the Championship final, Dillons were determined to come away with the trophy.
It was a low scoring game but fiercely competitive. Dillons got off to a good start with a goal from Shauna Cronin after four minutes. A point from Sinead Mills followed before Millstreet scored two points which left the score at half time Dillons 1-1 to 0-2. Millstreet started the second half strongly with four points without reply. Dillons worked hard and a superb point from Sinead Mills left a point between the teams. A short time later Shauna Walsh produced a world class save to keep Dillons in the game. Shauna Cronin then scored a point to level the match. It looked to be heading for extra time but Sinead Mills again popped up with a point which proved to be the winning score. Final score Dillons 1-4 to 0-6. Both teams deserve great credit for a cracking game of camogie. A great team performance from Dillons however special mention to Niamh O Leary at full back, Essie O Connell at wing back, Shauna Cronin in midfield, Lauren Barry at wing forward and to Man of the Match Ruth Brosnan to ran herself in to the ground. A traditional parade followed bringing the cup back to the Tank Field under Garda Escort. After a long season Dillons got their just rewards. What a year it has been for Brian Dillons Camogie Club. |
