Our U16 team have advanced to the League Final following victory against Millstreet in a thriller. The match was played on November 23 at the Tank Field. Millstreet scored an early point from a free before Sinead Mills scored our first point. Rachel Carroll then got a fabulous point before Sinead scored her second from a free. Eoibhe Atkinson on goal for Dillons made a great save just before H.T but in the follow up, Millstreet scored a goal. H.T score was Dillons 0-3 to 1-2. Our full back line were outstanding in the first half. The second half began with a point to Millstreet before Siofra Deane scored a real poachers goal for us. Shortly after we got a second goal which was a rocket from Jessica Aigbaloga, who was causing problems all day. Millstreet responed with three points, one from play, one from a free and one from a 45. The game was level going in to the last few minutes. Shauna Cronin was working her socks off in the middle of the field. Every ball was vigourously contested. In injury time Sinead Mills, (who else), popped up to put the ball over the bar for the winner. Final score 2-4 to 1-6. A fantastic team performance from Dillons, with Deirdre Keane absolutely superb at corner back. Like our U18 team, we are a tough team to beat. Millstreet have a very high scoring average this year and to contain them to 1-6 was a tremendous effort. Ballinhassig await in the final which is scheduled for Sunday next December 1. Venue and time to be confirmed. |
