Tremendous Draw in Cobh.

Our U14 team showed what they are made of with a tremendous draw away to Cobh on Friday May 9th. Make no mistake, this was a battle from start to finish. Our girls came off that pitch with their heads held high having achieved a draw with a Cobh team that have won their opening three matches of the season.
The match was played in terrible weather conditions including fog which was difficult for both teams who couldn't see one end of the pitch from the other. The first score came ten minutes in to the first half which was a goal from Cobh. It was their first real chance of the game and it was a soft goal from our point of view. We worked really hard in all areas of the pitch and got our reward when we were awarded a free just before half time. Anna Myers took the free from 40 metres out and it went straight to the net. H.T score was one goal each. We had some walking wounded at H.T. Eve O Connor, Alannah Garvin and Shannon McHale were all injured but did they complain.......you must be joking. They are made of steel. Our captain Kate O Connell was present, broken wrist and all, getting the team in a huddle and encouraging them to give it their all.
The second half was as bruising as the first. We were at the receiving end of some wild swings and the ref produced a couple of yellow cards to our opponents. Hannah Roche was injured but again she got up quicker than she went down, she's yet another example of how tough these girls are. We had a number of chances to score but didn't take them. Incredibly the second half ended scoreless. What a game it was, fantastic entertainment. F.T score one goal each.
Every player deserves to be mentioned. Katie on goal had some great clearances. Our full back line of Emma, Eve and Abbey were rock solid. Our half backs of Makela, Shannon and Hannah were outstanding. Hannah in particular was excellent in the first half. Shannon was without a doubt the best player on the field. Our midfield of Anna and Molly ran themselves in to the ground. Molly is the real warrior of this team...tough as nails. Our half forwards of Chloe, Mary and Sasha competed very well. Our full forward line of Alannah, Alice and Aoife worked their socks off. At the end you could see that every player gave it their all, they were exhausted, battered and bruised, happy with the draw but slightly disappointed we didn't win. The management team of Niamh, Linda and Aoife were thrilled with their performance. We are now unbeaten with two wins and a draw.
Next game Tuesday May 13th against Aghada at the Tank.
