Tough Defeat For U16's.

posted 21 Sept 2014, 12:11 by Tom Myers
Our U16 team are out of the championship following a one point defeat away to Newcestown. It's a tough one to take as we had the majority of possession and numerous chances to put Newcestown away. The game was played in beautiful weather but was probably too hot for both teams. The game was close right from the off. Newcestown scored 2-5 in the first half but we gifted them their two goals. In reply we scored 1-4 with four points from Sinead Mills and a goal from Siofra Deane. In the second half we were completely dominant but couldn't capitalise on our numerous chances. Rachel Carroll got a lovely point and Sinead scored 1-3. Newcestown only scored four points in the second half but it was enough to get over the line on the closest of margins. Final score 2-9 to 2-8. On another day we would have won comfortably, however we cannot fault the attitude and commitment of our girls. Everyone played their part. Sinead was awesome in midfield, Niamh at fullback was rock solid and Essie covered fierce ground at centre back. We deserved to win the match, that's for sure but Dillons will be gracious in defeat, there will be better days ahead. Niamh and Linda are immensely proud of their team.
