Our Senior team were beaten by the smallest of margins in the league semi final by Fr O Neills. Played on a poor pitch in Ballincollig on a beautiful evening, the game was set for a very close encounter and so it proved. We were missing some of our first team players but as usual we stepped up to the plate when needed. We had a great start with a cracker of a goal from Caoimhe. In reply our opponents put over four points, three from frees. Two points from Clair and one from Jane kept it very tight but we conceded a soft goal late on to go in at H.T a point down 1-03 to 1-04. ONeills scored a goal and a point early in the second half to stretch their lead to five points but we dug deep. Susan scored two goals from distance and Clair put over a couple of frees. However ONeills kept coming at us and scored some lovely points. It was level after 60 minutes but we conceded a free which they converted. We had a chance to win it late on but it wasn't to be. F.T score 3-07 to 2-11. A great effort from our girls who gave it everything, in particular Emma and Susan who were superb. Bitter disappointed at the end as we could almost touch the final. Best of luck to ONeills against Blackrock in the final. For us it's back to training for the championship which is coming down the tracks very soon. |
