U8 Blitz 17th June Our Under 8’s headed off to Bishopstown on a lovely sunny afternoon. We played three matches, the first against Carrigaline, the second against Bishopstown and the third against Sarsfields. By the end of the third game the Factor 50 sun cream was beginning to wilt but not our players. While everyone played well in every match Aoibheann, Kellie and Orlaith were prominent as forwards, Caoimhe was outstanding in goal as were the others on their turn while Saoirse was tireless running up and down the field with Roisin and Meadbh close behind in the metres covered. One of the opposing mentors was very impressed with the showing of a number of our players, particularly Ellie Mai, Theia, Katie and Mairead and made a gentle enquiry about the possibility of transfers but this approach was quickly shot down. It was a great day out.
U5/U6’s 19th June. Our younger brigade were invited to Blackrock on Monday evening for a mini-tournament with Ballincollig and Blackrock. We played the two Ballincollig teams (they had over twenty players in attendance!) and Rocky the Blackrock tiger mascot came and joined in the fun – but they couldn’t get a helmet or boots to fit her so she had to be a spectator. As we were short in numbers we had to get the services of very experienced players to be the goalie and are very grateful to Meadbh (whose 7th birthday was imminent) and Caoimhe for helping us out. While it was Ava and Clodagh’s first outing they had Orlaith, Rose and Aoibheann well experienced from their U8 outings as great support. At the end all the players got a cake, sweets and a drink and most sat down for a picnic before they headed off home to their leaba. |
