Seniors March On!

Our senior team once again produced a magnificent performance in beating Aghabollough in their second round Championship match played at Castle Road. This was yet another big test for us and we passed with flying colours. We started well with a goal from Lauren after two minutes.  Sinead put over a point before Jane hit the back of the net for our second goal. The game was extremely physical right from the start and we weren't found wanting.   Clair put over three frees in a row with deadly accuracy before Sinead got our fifth point shortly before half time.  We restricted our opponents to long distance shooting as our defence was outstanding.  H.T score was 2-5 to 0-8. Strong words were exchanged at H.T stressing that even though we had the wind in the second half it was not going to win the match for us.  We had trained specifically for a physical battle and our work rate had to be maintained.  The second half was just as tense as the first. Susan put over an inspirational point to settle us. Points from Sinead, Clair, Caroline, Jane and another from Clair followed.  Once again we restricted Aghabollough to scoring points from distance. We lost Emma with a knee injury and incredibly we lost Ruth to a red card for an offence that no one saw except the referee. We were down to fourteen but that just made us stronger and we saw the match out winning on a score line of 2-11 to 0-13.  It was a fantastic contest and credit to both teams. It was a pity that some of the referees decisions spoilt the contest in ways but we rose above that. We remained focused, out attitude was spot on and our determination was driven.  Shauna on goal was rock solid, she's in great form.  Rebecca flaked everything that moved, Sarah fulfilled our expectations of her at full back and Niamh did a man-marking job as we knew she would. Shannon was outstanding at wing back, she has some future ahead of her in this game. Emma worked her socks off and took one for the team and had to be substituted. Deirdre once again was solid. Susan was magnificent in the middle of the field and her partner Ruth put in a great shift before a ridiculous refereeing decision.  Clair was deadly accurate with her free taking. Amanda set the example as Captains do and Caroline was outstanding scoring a brilliant point from play.  Jane once again scored a goal which she is doing all year, Sinead was at her usual best scoring three points from play and Lauren covered fierce ground and scored our first goal. Rachel and Kate came on as subs and gave it everything.  So now we have two wins out of two matches in the Championship and if we win one of our remaining two matches in the group it is likely we will quality for the semi final. Still plenty work to do before that.  Everyone in the club is extremely proud or our Senior B warriors who are wearing their jerseys with pride. "Courage above all things is the first quality of a warrior"
