Brian Dillons and Blackrock must meet again after an exciting draw in the semi final of the intermediate championship. The match was played in Sars and thanks to all our supporters who turned up in great numbers. This was always going to be a close encounter and so it proved. Both teams gave it their all and a draw was probably a fair result but we are still disappointed we didn't get the victory. Blackrock started the better with two quick points before we settled down. We got the next three points from Caoimhe, Lauren and Essie. The game was point for point after that. Susan put over a free before Therese with all her experience scored 1-1 in the space of five minutes. Caoimhe put over another point to make the score at H.T 1-6 to 0-7. We created a lot of chances in the first half but didn't capitalise. Sinead was moved to full forward and she scored two quick points in the second half. Then Blackrock launched a long distance free in to our box and somehow it ended up in the net. We didn't panic and we got two quick points from Shauna ana Sinead to keep our lead. Lauren and Caoimhe put over a point each to put us up by three points going in to the last ten minutes. Blackrock scored the last three points of the match to level it before the ref blew for full time. F.T score 1-12 to 1-12. We are disappointed we left it behind us but it's still all to play for. It was a great contest and it was evident that both teams wanted to reach the final badly. Certainly, we gave it everything, but we can play better than this. Our defence worked really hard particularly Amanda who was probably the best player on the field. Susan ran herself in to the ground and Sinead was a real handful for Blackrock, so lots of positives. The replay is set for Saturday next September 26th in Castle Road at 5pm. |
