Our U16 team had a great start to the league with a hard fought win over Millstreet at the Tank. Our girls showed how tough they are against skilful opponents. Played on a heavy pitch, it was always going to be a low scoring game. The first score came 15 minutes in to the first half when Siofra scored a great individual goal. Millstreet scored three points from play to level matters. Then some quick thinking from Steph from a free who found Siofra in space and duly popped over a point from 40 metres. That put us up a point at H.T 1-1 to 0-3. The second half was as tight with our defence outstanding. Abbey, Emma, Shannyn and Makela worked their socks off. Millstreet scored two points from play to go a point up. Caroline and Steph were commanding in midfield to drive us forward which resulted in Kate scoring a decisive goal for us. Millstreet got a late point but time ran out soon after to give us a victory by the closest of margins. A great start to the league which will give us confidence. Player of the match was Katie on goal, who made three great saves one of which was world class. F.T score 2-1 to 0-6. |
