What another feast of camogie we had at the annual Garda Blitz at the Tank. Twelve teams from around the city and county battled it out for this coveted trophy. The weather held up for us and the Tank was in excellent condition thanks to Donie Lyons. There was a great atmosphere all day with everyone having great fun and thats what its all about. We had a barbecue, ice cream van, tea/coffee, sandwiches and cakes. Our committee once again were unreal. Secretary Yvonne, Margaret, Mary Connolly, Mary Walsh, Karen, Cathriona, Veronica and Martina put in a great shift. The refreshments were going all day long and all the clubs were very appreciative. We also had the Garda Horses who are always a great attraction. John O Connor was M.C once again and he made us laugh. On the pitch Dillons had a very tough draw against the Glen, Douglas and the Barrs. We competed well but the opposition were too strong  for us on the day. Douglas and the Glen qualified for the semis and from the other group Sars and Inniscarra qualified. Sars won well and Inniscarra won a cracker of a match to reach the final. There was a parade and the National Anthem before the final where Sars showed their class and won well. They are an exceptional team and everyone sat back and just admired their talent. Camogie Legend Linda Mellerick picked the player of the tournament and this year it was in memory of refereee Doninic Rooney who died in October of last year while refereeing a Dilons v Douglas U16 match. The winner was Katelyn Sheehan. Dominic's wife Margaret and son Adam were present to present the trophy to raptourous applause. Supt Michael Comyns presented the trophy to the Sars captain and medals to both teams. It was a fabulous day and the effort that went to organising it was immense. Garda John O Driscoll and Tony Harnett once again were the driving force behind it. All the Community Gardai in Mayfield worked tirelessly ensuring every detail was attended to. Eve and Anna were the official score keepers making sure the records were correct. The referees Ger, Billy, Dave and William did a great job and worked hard all day. Tracey and Mary O Sullivan from the Juvenile Board were present to watch what everone agrees is the best Camogie Blitz of the year. Brian Dillons Camogie Club once again put on a great show and should be very proud of their efforts.
