An outstanding team display by Dillons proved to be decisive in the Junior A final replay against Enniskeane. In the 13th minute a goal by Donna Carroll got Dillons off to a great start, but with the aid of a strong breeze Enniskeane were up at half time 1-3 to 1-2. Jane Dooley and Donna Carroll having scored excellent points from play. Susan Kate Brosnan put on an outstanding display at midfield right through out the match. The game was very close up to the finish and Saoirse Rodgers made an incredible save in the last minute of normal time to keep Dillons in front. Six second half points from Man of the Match Therese Drummond ensured that Dillons won the championship for the first time since 1987. After eight minutes of extra time the final score of 1-8 to 1-6 brought great excitement to the large Dillons supporters present. The half back line of Ruth Brosnan, Amanda Dorgan and Orlaith ni Shuilleabhain were superb and Enniskeane found it difficult to break them down. The traditional convoy of cars through Dillons Cross with the cup under Garda Escort and on to the Tank Field sparked wild celebrations which will go on for sometime. Here's hoping we will have another County Championship tommorrow. UP DILLONS. |
