Brian Dillons Junior Team made history today by winning the Junior A League following their tremendous championship win last month. The match was played at Castle Road against a very skillful Sliabh Rua side. Dillons got off to a good start with a goal from play by Caoimhe Rodgers and a second from Therese Drummond from the penalty spot. Sliabh Rua replied with a point from a free. Dillons responded with two points from play from Caoimhe and Therese. The score at half time was 2-2 to 0-1. Sliabh Rua came back strong at the start of the second half and scored an excellent goal from play. Dillons had to dig deep and big performances from Saoirse Rodgers on goal, Anthea O Brien at full back and Ruth Brosnan at wing back steadied the ship. Dillons scored three points from play from Caoimhe and two from Donna Carroll. Sliabh Rua replied with two points, one from play and one from a free. Dillons held out and the matched finished 2-5 to 1-3. Team was Saoirse Rodgers, Shauna Ring, Rebecca Myers, Ruth Brosnan, Amanda Dorgan, Orla Ni Suillibheain, Susan Kate Brosnan, Deirdre Ring, Jane Dooley, Therese Drummond, Alison Smith, Donna Carroll, Caoimhe Rodgers, Rebecca O Mahoney and Claire Dooley.What an achievement from the team, the panel and the coaches. 2012 will be remembered in the Club's history for a long time. |
