Our Intermediate team had an impressive victory against Blackrock at Castle Road in the second round of the championship. This was always going to be a tough battle against a very skillful side, therefore our attitude had to be right from the very start. We were against a strong wind in the first half but that didn't stop us from an impressive start. Therese Drummond put over a point from play before Sinead Mills hit the back of the net. Therese added another point before Blackrock got their first point after twelve minutes. Ruth Brosnan put over a point but then Blackrock had a purple patch. They scored 1-2 without reply to level the match at 1-3 each which was the H.T score. Eventhough we were level we deserved more as our work rate was exceptional. Niamh and Deirdre were outstanding and Sinead was inspirational. We made a few positional changes and brought Claire Dooley on for Rachel Carroll. The second half was very tight and it was a battle. Essie O Connell was awesome at centre back and Amamda Dorgan was now dominant. We hadn't scored for nearly fifteen minutes but then we showed what we're made of. We scored three points from play within two minutes from Ruth, Susan and Lauren. Blackrock got a point from a free but we responded immeediately with another point from Ruth who was getting stronger as the game went on. Siofra Deane replaced Therese who had a great game. Caoimhe Rodgers at full forward worked her socks off and got her reward when she blasted an unsoppable free to the net, how many times have we seen her do that on the big occassions. Blackrock got two late points before Caoimhe put over a free. Final score 2-8 to 1-6. A very impressive performance from Dillons. Our defence was solid throughout. Emer Keane and Alison Smith impressed. Susan and Sinead are a great partnership and are a handful for any opposition. That's two wins out of two in the championship and we march on to meet Enniskeane in the next round. |
