Brian Dillons U16's lost out narrowly to Blackrock in the Championship final held earlier today at Castle Road. Defeat by two points in what was a very exciting contest. The match started brightly for Dillons with a point from a free from Caoimhe Rodgers and a goal from Emma Carroll. Another point from Caoimhe from play and in reply Blackrock scored four points all from play. That left the score at H.T Dillons 1-2 to 0-4. Dillons went in a point up thanks to Shauna Walsh who made some great saves. Blackrock levelled the score early in the second half with a point from a free. Caoimhe scored a superb point from play before Blackrock scored the opening goal after fourteen minutes of the second half. Then Dillons were dealt a hugh blow when Caoimhe had to be substituted after an injury. Blackrock then scored three points without reply to make the score Dillons 1-3 to 1-8. Dillons dug deep to get back in the game. Ruth Brosnan was outstanding at wing back and Niamh O Leary was rock solid at full back. Dillons scored a late goal, again from Emma Carroll but it was not enough. Blackrock won on a scoreline 1-9 to 2-4. Hearbreak for the girls, coaches and mentors after a great effort. The team still have the opportunity to win the league so there is still a chance for a trophy.
