Dillons Intermediate Team were beaten in extra time by Newtownshandrum in the final of the League in Castle Road last night. The game was decided in extra time in what proved to be a very exciting contest. Newtown got off to a great start scoring 1 - 4 without reply, however points from Claire Dooley, Jane Dooley, Therese Drummond and a goal each from Shauna Ring and Caoimhe Rogers put Dillons ahead on the narrowist of margins 2 - 4 to 1 - 6 at H.T. The second half was as close as the first with both teams giving their all in very warm conditions.  A point from Therese Drummond, a goal from Caoimhe Rodgers and a point from Deirdre Ring put Dillons in a commanding position, however Newtown responded well scoring two goals within a minute. In the last seconds of the game, Newtown were three points up before Shauna Ring scored a goal to force extra time. The full time score being 4 - 6 to 3 - 9. In extra time Dillons forged ahead with a goal from Therese Drummond followed by a point from Jane Dooley however Newtown responded well again scoring 1 - 4 to win a tremendous match. The final score was Dillons 5 - 7, Newtownshandrum 4 - 13.  Great credit is due to both teams for a cracking match.  Dillons ran themselves into the ground and can take a lot of positives out of their performance considering it is their first year at Intermediate Level. A great team preformance all around, especially Caroline Craugh, Susan Kate Brosnan and Jane Dooley. Following a great league campaign, we can look forward to the championship with confidence.
