On Sunday morning last at Castle Road, the Junior A team were unlucky not to come away with their Second County Championship in the Clubs history but instead had to settle for a draw and a chance to do it all again at the same venue next Saturday afternoon at 4pm. They played out an evenly contested affair against a very good Enniskean outfit, who themselves were looking for their first county title in this grade. The game started very well with both sides trading scores early on, Therese Drummond on free taking duties was unerring in her duties converting the chances offered to her by the Enniskean defence after sloppy defending on their part. Dillons who had been in control of the game for the first 20 minutes whilst playing against a stiff breeze found themselves in trouble when a great run through the heart of the defence and a clever hand pass from Enniskeans centre-forward found their corner forward in space and she finished well to the back of the net. This left Dillons trailing by a point going in at half time 1-3 to 0-5, however they were buoyed by their first half performance and this lead to a great second half. The second half started very tight amid great defending by both sides before Enniskean struck with a brace of points to take a firm lead in the game as they began to dominate the opening period of the second half. Dillons however showed their spirit and strength all over the park and got themselves back level after some great scores from Donna Carroll, Jane Dooley and Claire Dooley. Again the sides traded points as the game neared the closing stages. At this point in the game every point counted and just on the stroke of full time Enniskean struck to take a one point lead and it looked like the cup would be heading West, however yet again Dillons pulled themselves back into the game deep into injury time with a pointed free and could have won it at the death only for some great Enniskean defending. Both sides would feel however that the draw was a fair result and they will get the chance to battle it out again this coming Saturday the 20th of October at the same venue with a throw in time of 4pm. Although there were great performances all over the team special mention goes to Anthea O'Brien, Amanda Dorgan and Ruth Brosnan in defence, Susan Kate Brosnan at Midfield and in attack the Dooley sisters, Therese Drummond and Donna Carroll.
