Our Intermediate team had a comprehensive win against Newcestown in our second match of the championship.
The match was played at Ballincollig on August 20th. We were completely dominant from start to finish despite the fact that we didn't reach top gear. We knew the importance of this game and we had prepared well. We were without captain Susan Brosnan due to injury and the suspended Sinead Mills, however we were determined to win and to win well. Jane Dooley got a goal after two minutes to settle us down. Further goals from Therese Deane, Lauren Barry and Jane Dooley again put us in control. Two points each from Essie O Connell and Claire Dooley made the score at H.T 4-4 to 0-3. Early in the second half, Caoimhe Rodgers scored a beautiful goal and this was quickly followed by two further goals from Therese and Jane. Essie and Claire also put over two lovely points. The final score was 8-6 to 1-6. Even though we were not at our best there were a lot of positives. Jane and Therese scored a hatrick of goals each and Caoimhe scored one, thats seven goals from our full forward line. We have being working on being more ruthless in front of goal so that's satisfying. We were excellent at hooking and blocking which showed our hunger. We also ran our bench with the introduction of Lauren, Anthea, Rachel and Sarah. Over all a great win. The focus now is on our third and final round robin match against Tracton which is scheduled to be played on August 29th. |
