Our Intermediate team have reached the Championship Final following a dramatic one point win against Enniskeane in the semi final replay played at Eire Og. The winning point scored from a 45 from Caoimhe Rodgers in injury time was just reward for us because it was clear from our second half performance that we wanted it more. We were four points down at H.T but we knew we didn't do ourselves justice in the first half. We were wasteful in front of goal and we had too many wides. Enniskeane started very well with a couple of nice points. In reply Claire Dooley scored two points and Essie O Connell scored one. Enniskeane scored seven points in total in the first half, in response we only scored three. Shauna Walsh made a great save to keep us in touch and Alison Smith once again was inspirational at wing back. Strong words at H.T from Linda and Susan our captain, encouraged and motivated us to go out and show what we have trained for all year, to reach the Championship Final. Despite Enniskeane getting the first point of the second half which put us five points down, we then showed what we are made of. We got two goals is as many minutes from Claire and Caoimhe which rattled our opponents. At this point we were well in control with Shauna Cronin and Susan Kate dominant in midfield. Alison continued to impress at wing back and Niamh at full back was outstanding. We introduced Therese for Lauren. We got our third goal from Claire again to put us ahead by four points with 15 minutes left. We should have pulled away at this point but again we had some bad wides. Credit to Enniskeane they came back well with four points without reply, to level the match going in to stoppage time. We brought on Anthea for the injured Caroline. After two matches and two hours of camogie, there was nothing between the teams. Then, up stepped Caoimhe who despite the pressure, put over the 45 which proved to be the winning point. A fantastic match which finished 3-4 to 0-12. Once again this team have showed what we are made of. We must be mindful of our wastage in front of goal. Our never say die attitude saw us through yet again. SARS await in the final which is scheduled for Saturday next September 27th. |
